How to open a XM account
Opening a XM account takes five steps: register on XM's site, verify your identity and address, choose an account (Standard, Ultra Low, Shares (plus a free demo account)), fund it (minimum: $5 (Standard and Ultra Low; XM Global; Shares account $10,000)) and pick a platform.
The sign-up form takes minutes; the part that matters is choosing the right XM company and account. Here are the steps with XM's own published conditions at each one.
1. Check which XM company will hold your account
XM holds licences from FSC Belize, CySEC, DFSA, FSCA, CMA Kenya, FSC Mauritius, FSA Seychelles. The company that opens your account depends on your country of residence, and it decides your leverage and protection. Which XM company opens your account depends on where you live. If you live in the EU, the UK, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, the UAE or Qatar, our link only goes to a XM entity licensed for your country, and where there is none we show no link. We show no sign-up links at all in countries where promoting offshore brokers is not allowed.

2. Register and verify your identity
Register on XM's website or app with your email and phone. Regulated brokers must check your identity and address under anti-money-laundering rules, so XM will ask for documents in its sign-up flow. Verifying before you deposit avoids delays on your first withdrawal.
3. Choose an account type and currency
XM lists: Standard, Ultra Low, Shares (plus a free demo account). Account currencies: Deposits in any currency are converted into the account's base currency (base currency list not published on the pages we read). Commission: "Zero commission (as stated on its home page; check the Ultra Low and Shares account terms)". Accounts differ in how they charge you (spread or commission); see the cost per lot calculator.
4. Make your first deposit
Minimum deposit: $5 (Standard and Ultra Low; XM Global; Shares account $10,000). Deposit methods XM lists: Credit/Debit Cards, Bank Transfers, Local Transfers, E-wallets. Deposit fees: No (XM charges no deposit fees).
5. Pick a platform and start on demo
XM lists: MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, XM App. Demo: Yes (virtual funds in a simulated environment). Practise there first. Most retail CFD accounts lose money; check XM's own figure on its website before you trade.
