Quick verdict
BlackBull Markets is a forex and CFD broker that started in New Zealand. It is aimed at active traders who want tight spreads and a choice of platforms. It offers MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView, plus its own copy trading tool called BlackBull CopyTrader.
The short version:
- Regulation: two entities in our record. BBG Limited holds FSA Seychelles licence SD045. Black Bull Group Limited is listed on the New Zealand financial service providers register under FSP403326.
- Costs: ECN Prime has spreads from 0.0 pips plus US$3 per lot per side. ECN Standard has spreads from 0.8 pips and $0 commission.
- Minimum deposit: BlackBull says no minimum deposit is required, but your chosen funding method may have its own minimum.
- Leverage: 1:500 on forex and metals for BBG Limited.
- Payments: Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Skrill, Neteller, crypto and bank transfer for deposits.
- Not confirmed: withdrawal times and the share of retail accounts that lose money.
Our view: BlackBull is a solid fit for a trader who wants an ECN-style account and several platforms, and who accepts that the entity for clients outside New Zealand is an offshore Seychelles company. It is less suited to a trader who needs a licence from a top-tier regulator in their own country.
This review is a plain-English check of facts we could confirm from BlackBull's own site and regulator pages. It is not personal advice. CFDs are complex and most retail traders lose money, so only trade with money you can afford to lose.
Is BlackBull Markets legit and safe?
Many traders ask, is BlackBull a scam? On our facts, it is a real company with a licence and a registration. But legit has two parts. First, is the company real and supervised? Second, will you get your money out when you ask? A licence helps with the first question only. That is why we also look at withdrawals later.
Remember that a licence belongs to a company, not to a brand. BlackBull Markets is the brand. In our record there are two companies behind it.
- BBG Limited, regulated by the Financial Services Authority in Seychelles, licence SD045. BlackBull's own compliance page says so in these words: regulated by the Financial Services Authority in Seychelles under license number SD045.
- Black Bull Group Limited, listed on the New Zealand register of financial service providers with number FSP403326.
The leverage we quote, 1:500, is stated for BBG Limited. So for many clients outside New Zealand, the Seychelles company is the one that matters.
What does that mean for you? Offshore regulators often allow higher leverage. They may also offer fewer protections than regulators in major markets, and it may be harder to take a complaint further. We did not confirm whether BBG Limited offers any compensation scheme, so do not assume one.
Before you deposit:
- Read the client agreement and write down the exact company name.
- Search for that name on the regulator's register.
- Check the licence is active and the website address matches.
- Look for warnings from the regulator.
- Start small and test a withdrawal.
A licence does not protect you from losing money on a trade.
FSA Seychelles licence (BBG Limited)
The FSA is the Financial Services Authority of the Seychelles. Our record shows licence SD045 for BBG Limited. The compliance page of BlackBull confirms the number and the entity name.
How to check it yourself:
- Open BlackBull's compliance page, which is one of our sources.
- Note the company name and the licence number SD045.
- Open the FSA Seychelles list of regulated entities.
- Search for BBG Limited and read the status and permitted activities.
The Seychelles is an offshore centre. Rules differ from those in the UK, the EU or Australia. High leverage is possible there, which is why the 1:500 level exists. That is an opportunity and a danger at the same time.
New Zealand registration (Black Bull Group Limited)
Our record shows FSP403326 for Black Bull Group Limited, on the New Zealand financial service providers register. The register is run by the New Zealand companies office. The record also lists the FMA, which is the New Zealand Financial Markets Authority, as the regulator.
How to check it yourself:
- Open the New Zealand financial service providers register.
- Search for Black Bull Group Limited or the number FSP403326.
- Read the registration details and the services listed.
- Check any notes about licences or dispute resolution.
A registration on this register shows a company is listed as a financial service provider. It is not the same as a full guarantee of safety. Which entity serves a client in your country is something we could not confirm, so ask BlackBull in writing.
BlackBull Markets fees and spreads explained
Costs are the part of trading most beginners ignore. Yet costs repeat on every trade. Let us explain the three main ones.
The spread is the small gap between the price you buy at and the price you sell at. You pay it each time you open a trade. A pip is the standard small step in a currency price. The smaller the spread, the cheaper the trade.
The commission is a fee per trade. Some accounts have it and some do not.
The swap is a fee or credit for keeping a trade open overnight. We did not confirm BlackBull's swap rates. They are on the contract specifications page, which is one of our sources.
Here is what BlackBull shows in our record.
- ECN Prime: spreads from 0.0 pips, and a commission of US$3 per lot per side.
- ECN Standard: spreads from 0.8 pips, and $0 commission.
What does per lot per side mean? A lot is a standard trade size. Per side means you pay on the way in and again on the way out. So a full round trip with ECN Prime costs the commission twice, which is US$3 each time.
ECN stands for electronic communication network. An ECN-style account sends your order to a pool of prices from several liquidity providers, and the broker adds a visible commission. The idea is to make spreads tighter and costs clearer.
Which is cheaper? It depends on how you trade. A trader with many small trades should add the spread and the commission together for the pair they use. A trader who trades rarely may prefer the simple $0 commission account. The honest way to compare is to open both on a demo and look at the real cost on the same pair at the same time. Spreads are not fixed. They grow around news and when markets are quiet.
Account types at BlackBull Markets
Our record shows two account types. Both are ECN accounts.
ECN Prime. This account has spreads from 0.0 pips and a commission of US$3 per lot per side. It suits active traders who place many trades and want tight pricing. Scalpers and traders who use expert advisors often prefer this kind of account. An expert advisor is an automated trading program that runs inside MetaTrader.
ECN Standard. This account has spreads from 0.8 pips and $0 commission. It is easier to understand because the cost is only the spread. It suits beginners and traders who place fewer trades.
BlackBull also offers a copy trading tool, BlackBull CopyTrader, in our platform list. Copy trading means you copy the trades of another trader automatically. It is risky. Past results do not promise future results, and the person you copy can lose money fast. Never copy a trader without understanding the risk and the fees involved.
We did not confirm other account features such as swap-free Islamic accounts, cent accounts or professional accounts. If you need one, ask BlackBull in writing and keep the answer.
How should you choose between the two?
- If you trade often and want the tightest spreads, compare ECN Prime.
- If you want a simple, commission-free cost, look at ECN Standard.
- If you are not sure, start with a demo and compare the real cost on your own pair.
Do not pick an account because of the lowest number in the headline. Pick the one where you can see your total cost clearly.
Minimum deposit: how much do you need to start?
BlackBull states that it requires no minimum deposit. On its support page, the wording is that the account requires no minimum deposit, but a minimum amount may be required by your preferred funding method.
This is useful, but read it carefully. It means BlackBull itself does not set a minimum. However, your bank, card, e-wallet or crypto network might. Some payment providers have a minimum, or a fixed fee that makes small transfers costly. We did not confirm any specific amounts.
How to find your real minimum:
- Open the BlackBull deposit and withdrawal support pages, which are in our sources.
- Look at the method you plan to use.
- Check the minimum and any fee shown by the provider.
- If it is unclear, ask BlackBull support in writing.
Even when you can start with almost nothing, ask what a tiny account can do. A small balance limits your trade size. If you use high leverage to make up for a small balance, one wrong move can end the account. Many beginners lose their first account this way.
A safe plan is to start with an amount you can afford to lose entirely. Risk only a small part of it on any one trade. Practise on a demo account first. Move to real money slowly. And remember the other costs of moving money, such as bank fees and currency conversion. These can take a big share of a small deposit.
Deposit and withdrawal methods
BlackBull lists these deposit methods in our record.
- Visa
- Mastercard
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay
- Skrill
- Neteller
- Crypto
- Bank transfer
For withdrawals, the list we recorded is Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Skrill, Neteller, crypto and bank transfer. Notice that Visa appears in the deposit list but not in the withdrawal list. We did not confirm why. It may be a difference in how card withdrawals are handled. Check the withdrawal help page before you fund by Visa.
Which methods you can use depends on your country. For traders in Africa, Asia and Latin America, e-wallets, crypto and bank transfer are often the most practical. We did not confirm which methods are open in each country, so check the funding pages.
Practical rules for any broker:
- Use a payment method in your own name. Third-party payments are normally refused.
- Plan to withdraw by the same route you used to deposit. Brokers use this rule against fraud.
- Finish identity checks early. These are called KYC, short for know your customer.
- Check every fee: the broker's, your bank's and your wallet's.
- Watch the currency. If your account currency differs from your bank's, you will pay a conversion cost.
- With crypto, double-check the network and the address. A mistake can mean the money is lost for good.
We did not confirm BlackBull's deposit or withdrawal fees. Read the payments pages first.
How long do BlackBull Markets withdrawals take?
BlackBull does not give a fixed withdrawal time in the facts we confirmed. We will not quote a number from a forum or a rumour. When we have our own timed withdrawal tests, they appear on our withdrawal tests page.
What changes the speed of a withdrawal in real life?
- The method. E-wallets and crypto are often faster than bank transfer.
- Identity checks. Unverified accounts wait.
- Processing time. Requests at weekends or on holidays can sit longer.
- Open trades. Money tied up in open positions cannot be withdrawn.
- The receiving side. After the broker sends the money, your bank or wallet may add time.
A safe way to test:
- Verify your identity before you trade seriously.
- Fund your account with a small amount using the method you plan to keep.
- Withdraw a small part and write down the date and time of the request.
- Write down when the money arrives and what fees were taken.
- Only then add more money.
Remember the route rule. You will usually be asked to withdraw to the same method you used to deposit. And since Visa is not in our recorded withdrawal list, check how a Visa deposit would be returned.
If a withdrawal is delayed without a clear reason, write to support and keep copies. Then use the complaint path of the regulator named in your agreement. This is why you should know exactly which entity holds your account.
Trading platforms
BlackBull offers a wide platform choice. Its own platforms page lists MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView. Our record also lists BlackBull CopyTrader.
MetaTrader 4 is older and simpler, built mainly for forex. It has a huge library of indicators and expert advisors.
MetaTrader 5 is newer, with more timeframes, more order types and better testing tools. It suits traders who use many markets.
cTrader is known for a clean look and detailed order handling. Many traders who like ECN pricing prefer it. It also has its own way to build automated strategies.
TradingView is a charting site that many traders already use. Being able to trade from charts you know well can save time.
BlackBull CopyTrader lets you follow other traders. Be careful, because copying a trader does not remove risk.
Which one should you pick? Ask yourself these questions.
- Which platform runs well on the device I use every day?
- Do I need expert advisors? If yes, MetaTrader may be the better route.
- Do I already use TradingView charts?
- Are all the instruments I want available on that platform?
We did not confirm which platform works with which account, so check the platforms page on the BlackBull website. Try each one on a demo before you decide. A platform that feels easy will help you avoid costly mistakes.
Leverage and risk
Leverage lets you control a larger position with less money. A ratio of 1:500 means $1 of your money can control $500 of the market. BlackBull shows 1:500 on forex and metals for BBG Limited in our record.
This is a high level. It is allowed by offshore regulators, and it is far above the caps used in major markets. High leverage gives you the power to make large trades from small money. It also means a small price move against you can wipe out your margin. Margin is the money the broker holds while your trade is open. If your balance gets too low, trades are closed automatically. This is called a stop-out. We did not confirm BlackBull's stop-out level.
How to keep risk under control:
- Risk only a small share of your balance on one trade.
- Always set a stop loss. It is an order that closes a trade at a loss you chose.
- You do not have to use the maximum. Use a lower level if the platform allows it.
- Be careful around big news. Prices can jump past your stop. This is called slippage.
- Never add to a losing trade to win back what you lost.
We could not confirm BlackBull's own figure for the share of retail accounts that lose money. Major-market regulators require brokers to publish it. Look for the risk warning on the BlackBull website.
CFDs are complex and carry a high risk of losing money quickly. Do not use money you need for rent, food or school fees. Do not borrow to trade.
Who is BlackBull Markets best for?
BlackBull can suit these traders.
- Cost-focused active traders. ECN Prime shows spreads from 0.0 pips with a clear commission of US$3 per lot per side.
- Beginners who want a simple cost. ECN Standard has $0 commission.
- Traders who want choice of platform. MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView are all offered.
- Small starters. BlackBull states no minimum deposit of its own, though your funding method may have one.
- E-wallet and crypto users. Skrill, Neteller and crypto are listed for both deposits and withdrawals.
BlackBull may not suit these traders.
- Those who need a top-tier licence. The licence in our record for the leverage entity is from the Seychelles.
- Beginners tempted by 1:500 leverage. It can end a small account in minutes.
- Traders who need a known withdrawal time. None is published in the facts we confirmed.
- Visa users who plan to withdraw to the card. Visa is not in our recorded withdrawal list.
No broker is best for everyone. The best one for you is regulated for where you live, takes a payment method you already use and lets you withdraw without trouble. Start with a demo and a small deposit.
How to open a BlackBull Markets account
The exact screens may change, so follow what you see on the website. These are the usual steps.
- Go to the official BlackBull website at blackbull.com. Type the address yourself. Do not follow links from messages or ads.
- Choose to open an account and enter your country. This may decide which company serves you.
- Enter your name, email address and phone number. Use real details that match your ID.
- Read the client agreement. Write down the legal company name.
- Check the name against the licences in this review.
- Upload your ID and proof of address when asked. This is the KYC step.
- Choose an account type, ECN Prime or ECN Standard, and a platform.
- Practise on a demo account first.
- Make a small deposit using a method in your own name.
- Place a small trade with a stop loss, then withdraw a small amount to test the process.
Keep these in mind. Never share your password or codes. Never give anyone remote access to your computer. Never pay someone who promises guaranteed profits. Real brokers do not phone you to ask for money. If a stranger online offers to trade for you, walk away.
Save screenshots of your agreement and your receipts. They help if you ever need to complain.
The fine print
Every broker has rules that are easy to miss. Read these parts of the BlackBull terms before you deposit. Where our record has a fact, we show it. Where it does not, we say so.
- Minimum deposit. BlackBull states no minimum deposit, but your funding method may require one. This is confirmed.
- Commission. ECN Prime charges US$3 per lot per side. ECN Standard charges $0. This is confirmed.
- Entity. The 1:500 leverage is stated for BBG Limited. This is confirmed.
- Visa withdrawals. Visa is in the deposit list but not in our withdrawal list. Check how card refunds work.
- Inactivity fees. Does BlackBull charge a fee for an unused account? We did not confirm this.
- Deposit and withdrawal fees. What do BlackBull, your bank and your wallet charge? We did not confirm this.
- Currency conversion. What rate is used if your funds are in another currency?
- Stop-out level. At what margin level are trades closed?
- Negative balance protection. If you lose more than your balance, who covers it? We did not confirm this for BlackBull.
- Bonuses and promotions. Offers can come with trading volume rules that lock your money. Read every condition.
- Copy trading. Read the fee and risk terms before you copy anyone.
Also read the risk warning. A broker must say plainly that you can lose money.
The Forex Bridge may earn a commission if you open an account through a link on this site. This does not change our scores or our words. We show the same facts and the same warnings whether a broker pays us or not.
Our final verdict
BlackBull Markets is a New Zealand-founded forex and CFD broker with a strong platform list: MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader, TradingView and BlackBull CopyTrader. ECN Prime shows spreads from 0.0 pips with US$3 per lot per side, and ECN Standard shows spreads from 0.8 pips with $0 commission. BlackBull states no minimum deposit, and leverage is 1:500 on forex and metals for BBG Limited.
What we like: the cost structure is clear, the platform choice is wide, and the funding list includes cards, e-wallets, crypto and bank transfer.
What to watch: the licence for the leverage entity is offshore, from the Seychelles. Withdrawal times are not published in the facts we confirmed. Visa appears for deposits but not in our withdrawal list. And 1:500 is a risk for beginners.
Our advice is simple. Find out which company will hold your account and check its licence on the register. Open a demo. Start with a small deposit, place a small trade with a stop loss, and make a small withdrawal to see how long it takes. Only then decide whether to add more.
CFDs carry a high risk of losing money quickly. Never trade with money you cannot afford to lose, and never believe a promise of guaranteed profit. We update this review when the facts change.
