IG referral link and partner code: what it is and what you get
Our IG referral link only tells IG who referred you. You get the same account, the same prices and the same protection as signing up directly, and there is no bonus from us.
Search "IG referral code" and you will find pages promising bonuses, rebates or "exclusive" codes. Here is what a referral link really does, in plain words, so you can decide whether to use one.
What an IG referral link is
Brokers like IG run partner programmes. A partner gets a link or a code; when someone opens an account through it, IG records the partner as the referrer and may pay the partner a fee. That is all our link does. It is IG that pays us, not you: our link adds no charge to your trades. (Some partners elsewhere use marked-up accounts with wider spreads; compare any account you are offered with IG's own published prices.)
What you get, and what you do not
- Same account and prices: the account types, spreads and commission are IG's own published ones (CFD, spread betting, share dealing and stocks and shares ISA (plus SIPP and IG Smart Portfolio)). IG's spreads: "0.6 pips EUR/USD (MT4, UK)".
- Same protection: your protection depends on the IG company that holds your account, not on the link.
- No bonus from us: we offer no bonus, reward or gift for using our link. Pages that promise one are not IG's offer; check IG's own site before you believe it.
- No code to type: you do not need a partner code to open an IG account. Signing up directly is always an option.
Which IG company our link opens
Which IG company opens your account depends on where you live. If you live in the EU, the UK, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, the UAE or Qatar, our link only goes to an IG entity licensed for your country, and where there is none we show no link. We show no sign-up links at all in countries where promoting offshore brokers is not allowed.
How we are paid, and what it never changes
IG may pay us when someone opens an account through our link. It never changes the TFB Score, a ranking or what we write: the score comes from facts checked on IG's own pages and regulators' registers (how it works). See our affiliate disclosure.
Can I add a partner code to an existing account?
IG does not publish a rule on this on the pages we read, so we do not guess. Ask IG's support if it matters to you. It changes nothing on your prices either way.
